Privacy Policy for Rumo
Last updated: April 14, 2026
Rumo ("the app", "we", "our") is a personal life-tracking app built by Rumo. This policy explains what information the app handles, where it's stored, and the choices you have. We designed Rumo to keep your data in your own hands — nothing is sent to our servers, because we don't run any.
Data the app handles
Everything Rumo stores is data you enter yourself:
- Profile: your name, birth year, expected lifespan, chosen focus areas, week-start preference, and visual theme.
- Trackers and habits: the names, icons, targets, and daily completion history of the habits you choose to track.
- Goals and tasks: goals you create, their linked tasks, deadlines, and progress.
- Books: titles, authors, cover images (custom uploads or fetched cover URLs), and read status.
- Daily lines: any one-sentence reflections you write.
- AI insights: text that the app generates summarising your tracked data.
The app may also access the following when you explicitly grant permission:
- Calendar and Reminders: only when you choose to export goal deadlines or tasks to your system Calendar or Reminders. The app reads and writes to those system apps on your behalf; it does not copy their contents anywhere else.
- Camera: only if you use the barcode scanner to add a book. Images from the camera are processed on-device to read the barcode and are not stored or transmitted.
- Motion sensors: used only to render subtle visual tilt effects on screen. Motion data is read in real time and is not recorded.
- Notifications: only if you enable morning, evening, or streak reminders. Notifications are scheduled locally on your device.
Where your data is stored
On your device
All the data you enter is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. If you delete the app, this local copy is removed.
In your private iCloud
If you are signed in to iCloud on your device, Rumo uses Apple's CloudKit to sync your data between your own Apple devices and to back it up inside your personal iCloud account. This is the same mechanism Apple's own apps use.
- Your data is stored inside your private iCloud database. Nobody else — including us — can access it.
- Profile preferences (name, birth year, theme, focus areas, etc.) are synced through iCloud Key-Value Storage, also inside your private iCloud.
- Rumo has no backend servers. We never receive, see, or store any of your data.
You control this sync entirely through iOS Settings → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud → Rumo. Turning it off stops the sync; signing out of iCloud or deleting the app removes the local copy.
Third-party services
Rumo makes outbound network requests only in these specific cases:
- Book covers and metadata: when you add a book, the app queries the Open Library and Google Books public APIs to fetch cover images and title/author information. These requests do not include your name, account, or any personal identifier — only the search term or ISBN you typed.
- AI insights (if enabled): text summaries may be generated by calling a third-party AI model provider. Only the tracked data you choose to summarise is sent. No personal identifiers are attached.
We do not use analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, crash reporters with personal data, or any other third-party tracking services.
Information we do not collect
- We do not collect your name or email address on our servers (we have none).
- We do not use advertising identifiers.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone, ever.
Children
Rumo is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices and rights
- Access: all of your data is visible to you inside the app at any time.
- Export / delete individual items: you can delete any tracker, goal, book, or entry directly in the app; removal propagates through iCloud to your other devices.
- Full deletion: deleting the app from all your Apple devices and removing its iCloud data (iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Rumo → Delete Data) removes all data associated with Rumo.
- Permissions: you can revoke Calendar, Reminders, Camera, Motion, and Notification permissions at any time from iOS Settings → Rumo.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
